Ilang ilang is a medium-size perennial plant, knotted base, hanging branches, monocotyledon emerge on the branches, sharp at the end and round leaves with 6-7 inches long, light yellow flowers, slender petals with 4 inches long, one flower have 6 pedals and it quite a twisted petal.

Ilang ilang can be grown in tropical countries such as Thailand, Philippines, Burma, Java etc. People often plant it in their house and garden. They collect the old flower to make an oil by using the steam distillation method for perfume. Ilang ilang is often used to make syrup, or dessert such as Salim, Boiled rice jelly by fire the petals of ilang ilang to melt the odoriferous oil gland.

Ilang Ilang likes to stay outdoors, blooming throughout the year.

It can be reproducing by seed propagation and grafting.
